The Management Club Mt. Lavinia holds AGM

The Annual General Meeting of The Management Club – Mt. Lavinia was held on 31 August at Galadari hotel in the presence of its distinguished members. It was refreshing to note that a large number of members were present physically at the location as the country is gradually settling in to normalcy post-COVID pandemic and the fuel crisis.

At the outset, outgoing Chairman Roger Talayaratne presented the annual club report for 2021/2022. Despite last year being an extraordinary challenging year, the club had managed to perform extremely well to meet the goals and aspirations of the club and its members. Especially series of management development programs carried out to up skill the leadership competence of university students was highly commendable. In addition, the club managed to end the year with positive financial results. This was highlighted by eminent personality Fayaz Saleem, founder of The Management Club, and he extended special word of appreciation to outgoing Chairman Roger Talayaratne for his visionary leadership. 

Then came the most awaited moment of the evening, establishment of the new executive committee for the year 2022/2023. Following members were unanimously elected as the club officials. Delivering the Chairman’s speech Kanishka Ranaweera thanked the Board of Management and the general membership of TMC for placing trust in him and the new committee to take the leadership of the club. Laying down the club roadmap for the upcoming year, Ranaweera highlighted the importance of continued focus on management development with proper identification of niche in which the club wanted to focus in the sphere of “management development” considering the club and its members’ strengths and capabilities. In this light he emphasised TMC – Mt. Lavinia would intend to focus on leadership development of undergraduates who are the future leaders of Sri Lanka and also to develop skill and capabilities of entrepreneurs of the SME sector which would be the driving force in economic revival of future Sri Lanka. 

He also emphasised as corporate leaders we need to light the candle of hope with its actions and deeds without passing that responsibility solely to political leadership, for economic revival. He also invited TMC sister club leaders to organise joint events to provide better networking opportunities for general membership. The secretary Manish Rodgrigo delivered the vote of thanks followed up by an evening of fellowship and networking.
