The Management Club (TMC) Colombo successfully launched its inaugural Power Breakfast sessions under the theme “Where leaders share the journey” at Ivy Hall, Cinnamon Grand, Colombo. The event brought together an elite audience of CEOs, senior managers, and entrepreneurs for an engaging morning of leadership insights and high-level networking.
The program commenced with a welcome note by TMC Colombo Chairman Duneeshya Bogoda, who emphasised that the Power Breakfast is designed as a platform for professionals to learn from distinguished leaders across corporates, sports, politics, and entrepreneurships. She highlighted the importance of creating meaningful opportunities for professionals to “learn, connect, and grow together.”
TMC Board of Management President Roger Thalayarathne also addressed the gathering, outlining TMC’s mission to strengthen professional networks and foster knowledge sharing. He extended an invitation for participants to join the TMC community and encouraged greater participation from women professionals to ensure a healthy gender balance in leadership forums.
The keynote address was delivered by Hatton National Bank PLC Managing Director/CEO Damith Pallewatte, who shared his inspiring leadership journey—from his formative school years to his rise in the banking sector. He spoke candidly about how early lessons in corporate discipline and leadership shaped his career, stressing the importance of risk-taking, embracing challenges, and continuous learning to remain competitive in today’s corporate landscape.
Pallewatte underscored that every milestone in his career was driven by discipline, a clear plan, and an unwavering passion. He encouraged participants never to give up in the face of adversity, noting that “true leadership comes from resilience, adaptability, and holding on to the passion that fuels growth and success.” Responding to questions from the audience, he further explained how his strategic leadership approach aligns not only with the success of HN, but also with the growth and development of the wider community.
The session also featured reflections from several distinguished participants. Pelawatta PLC CEO Priyantha Hapuarachchi commented: “That was a very useful session to learn through real leaders.” SLIC Lanka Chairman Dr. Kapila Balasooriya added: “Listening to Mr. Pallewatte’s first-hand experiences was truly valuable. As a CEO, I often encounter similar challenges and could relate to his thinking and leadership approach.” A renowned Optometrist and Chairman of A&A International, Ranee Ratnayeke remarked: “It was inspiring to listen to a true leader of the banking sector, whose 100% commitment to his journey motivates us all.”
The event was spearheaded by Project Chairman Dr. Ayesh De Silva, who was commended for his outstanding leadership in planning and executing the program. The initiative was made possible through the generous support of Fintrex Finance, being the main sponsor of the event.
The Power Breakfast series marks a new initiative by TMC Colombo, aimed at providing a premier platform where business leaders and professionals can exchange knowledge, share experiences, and build valuable connections. Alongside the keynote, the event facilitated interactive discussions and meaningful networking, making it a memorable and impactful start to the series to come. TMC Colombo look forward to hosting future Power Breakfast sessions, continuing its mission to inspire, empower, and connect leaders who play a pivotal role in shaping Sri Lanka’s professional and corporate landscape.
