Miss Intercontinental winners excel in humanitarian, entrepreneurial and entertainment ventures

The Miss Intercontinental Pageant began as a tourism competition to attract tourists to the island of Aruba in the year 1971. Since then it has grown into an annual international tradition drawing beautiful and talented young women vying for the crown from across the world. 

Fascinating experiences, choreographed shows and travel opportunities attract ambitious women from around the globe to take part in this much celebrated beauty pageant. Whilst the title, crown and sash have become mainstays of the pageant, the pageant itself has changed vastly over the past 45 years mirroring the fast-paced world of today. The pageant has become an icon of glory and success with many of the past title holders venturing into high profile careers in business, finance, administration, film and fashion.

These are women of grace, commitment, intelligence, style and substance and they have gone on to make their mark in the international arena and these are their success stories. Verona Pooth was crowned Miss Germany in the year 1993 and went on to win the Miss Intercontinental title in the same year. Subsequent to her win, she went on to make a career as a German television personality and as an occasional actress. She was awarded the German ‘Bambi’ media prize in the years 2004 and 2006 in recognition of her contribution to the industry. She also owns the famous line of lingerie called ‘Verona’s Dreams’ which sells at department stores in Germany and over the internet. This collection has recently been extended to costume jewellery making her one of the most successful model –turned female entrepreneurs in the industry.  

Jana Ina is another successful Miss Intercontinental winner who went on to make a remarkable career in showbiz and as a television personality. Born in the year 1976, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, she was crowned Miss Intercontinental in the year 1998. She entered into professional modelling at the tender age of 15 and after completing school, she studied Journalism at the State University of Rio de Janeiro. After being crowned Miss Intercontinental, she remained in Germany and later on served as a jury member for the Miss Intercontinental pageant.  She is famous for her television shows ‘Giga’ and ‘World league esports Bundesliga.’ The other TV shows under her belt are ‘The new series Taff’, the reality show ‘Das Model und der Freak,’ ‘The Die Oliver Posher show.’ She also has two records with star composer Leslie Madoki under her name. 

Another remarkable winner worth mentioning is Lara Dutta, a woman with beauty and brains. She was crowned Miss Intercontinental in the year 1997 and is known to have scored the highest marks in the Miss Intercontinental pageant history and went on the do the same at the Miss Universe pageant three years later. She is notably considered to be one of the most beautiful as well as intelligent women to wear the Miss Intercontinental crown to date. Born in India in the year 1978, today she is a highly successful model and a Bollywood star and has recently ventured into film production as well. She has a degree in economics with a minor in communication from the University of Mumbai. 

The number of contestants who vie for the most expensive crown of all pageants every year has increased to over seventy and year after year, Miss Intercontinental is able to establish its reputation as an event that seeks to celebrate the beauty of diversity. 

The Miss Intercontinental Crown valued at approx. $ 360,000 is named ‘Oriental Holy Water’ and is said to have been inspired by water as the main source of life and symbolic of purity and beauty of women. 

Miss Intercontinental 2016 conceptualised by Cinnamon Hotels and Resorts and powered by EGB will be held at Stein Studios on 16 October from 6 p.m. onwards together Exclusive Electronic Media Partners – MTV and MBC. 

Tickets for the pageant will be available on www.wow.lk and are priced at 3500, 5000, 7500 and 10000.

The finale will feature a ‘fairy tale’ theme that will run throughout the whole event. The event will also feature popular celebrity performances from Apache Indian who came into fame with his smash-hit ‘Boom Shack A Lack’ and celebrated music artist Destiny. There will also be an exclusive after-party with more celebrity performances apart from the main events line up.
