In a significant move to redefine fitness in Colombo, Under Armour Sri Lanka wrapped up its 90-Day challenge at Liftr Colombo on 31 January, signaling a shift from traditional retail to performance-based community building.
The awards ceremony marked the conclusion of a three-month initiative that saw a cohort of Colombo’s residents undertake a disciplined regime of training and nutrition. The event was not just a celebration of weight loss, but a statement of intent from the Abans Group to position Under Armour as a brand that actively incentivises public health rather than simply outfitting it.
Addressing the gathering, Abans PLC Lifestyle Cluster DGM - Marketing Angelo Fernando highlighted the unique position Under Armour is carving out in the local market. “While many brands sell fitness gear, we design initiatives to reward tangible physiological output. We consider that as our duty to make Colombo fitter and better as the No. 1 premier sportswear brand in Sri Lanka with an international footprint,”.
“We have a lot of brands in this country, but Under Armour is the only brand in Sri Lanka that isn’t just selling you gear; they are rewarding you for actual performance,” stated Liftr Colombo Head Coach Dharun Chandrabose. This strategy was backed by a substantial financial commitment, with the brand distributing rewards valued at over Rs. 1.4 million directly to participants based on their results.
The event concluded with the recognition of top performers, with rewards strictly allocated to those who met the performance threshold.
The ceremony honoured the tiered achievements of the group, recognising the discipline required to hit these physiological benchmarks. The season’s Grand Champion recorded a remarkable 14kg weight loss over the three-month period, setting a high bar for future cohorts.
Under Armour is now available in Sri Lanka at the Colombo City Centre, One Galle Face and at the Racecourse Mall.
