Deliverance Dialogues’ art exhibition, held parallel  to the international Rio+20  Earth Summit

SriLankan Airlines in an attempt to coincide Sri Lanka with the current global campaign to make a greener planet, hosts a unique art exhibition promoting water sustainability, parallel to the Rio+20 Earth Summit. ‘Deliverance Dialogues’ interactive art exhibition was recently unveiled at the Colombo Fort Dutch Hospital with the support of SriLankan Airlines.

The national carrier aims to promote sustainability through this exhibition that focuses on the significance of water and Sri Lanka’s ancient hydro civilisation, presented in a modern and innovative way.

SriLankan Airlines CEO Kapila Chandrasena who is currently in Rio de Janeiro accompanying his Excellency the President at the Rio+20 Earth Summit voiced the importance of supporting sustainability on a global platform, “At a time when the whole world is looking towards the Rio Earth summit and a greener planet, it’s important for Sri Lanka to become part of it as a progressive nation. Therefore, SriLankan is not only facilitating the participation of our nation’s leader in this historical summit, but also walking the talk by hosting this art exhibition on water sustainability to engage Sri Lankans and the visitors to our country with the cause.”

Commenting further on the topic, he said that ‘water’ is extremely important to Sri Lanka, as a country with superior irrigation technology and a culture built on a hydro-civilisation, which makes it only fitting for us to celebrate water sustainability with references to our history and the national vision for the future.

Deliverance Dialogues art installation is by the internationally known Sri Lankan artist Anoma supported by HSBC while SriLankan Airlines hosts the exhibition through its fine dining restaurant ‘Semondu’ at the Colombo Fort Dutch Hospital premises.

SriLankan Chairman Nishantha Wickremasinghe unveiled the exhibition and mentioned that hosting ‘Deliverance Dialogues’ will be a part of the airlines’ noteworthy contributions to planet earth; “We’re not only credited for transforming its worldwide operations with environment-friendly ‘green flights’, was also the first airline in South Asia to make a full and unconditional commitment to environmental conservation.”

SriLankan has also spearheaded an eco-campaign of tree planting, plant distribution and environmental art/photography competitions to commemorate the World environment Day earlier this month, he also noted. Deliverance Dialogues will be held at the Dutch Hospital premises until 18 July.
