Declared by American journalist H.L. Mencken to be the ‘only American invention as perfect as a sonnet, the martini is often at the forefront of premier alcoholic mixed cocktails worldwide.’ It’s origins today remain unclear, although most say that bartender Jerry Thomas concocted it at the Occidental Hotel in San Francisco in the 1860s. The name “martini” had inspired him from the nearby town of Martinez.

Hilton Colombo’s very own Dain Isfahan, who recently won at the Annual Marie Brizard Cocktail Competition as the Best Flair Bartender in Colombo will be showcasing his talent at the Martini Bar this June. Dain who claimed the title in the Colombo Region will now prepare himself for the All Island Cocktail Competition.  The Martini bar will be open to all Martini lovers from 6pm to 2am daily at the Thorana Bar, located by the hotel’s “Lotus Pond” which in itself is an experience to uphold with its exquisite ambience. Delectable canapés and light food will be available for customers, prepared by the award-winning Executive Chef Rohan Fernandopulle. Martinis prices will begin at Rs.550+++ per drink, and as a special anniversary promotion the hotel will have an astounding 50% off for the cocktails during the Martini Happy Hour from 7pm to 8.30pm every day. The 34 distinctive signature Martini’s available at the re-launch of the hotel’s Martini Bar this month is another highlight in Hilton Colombo’s anniversary celebrations. As this year Hilton Colombo celebrates 25 years of service excellence, continuing to be the trendsetters in the industry and delivering on Conrad Hilton’s vision of spreading the light and warmth of hospitality, in Sri Lanka.
