The agreement was marked with the introduction of Sony’s new flagship waterproof smartphone – the XperiaZ2 LTE which promises industry-leadingtechnology and looks to raise the bar in smartphone offerings for Sri Lankan consumers. The  8.2 mm slim Xperia Z2 LTE comes packed with a superior display and sound, with a 20.7 megapixel camera that combines with the largest sensor (30% more than previous standard) in the market, and a camcorder experience that uses the latest ultra-high definition 4K resolution. This, combined with it also being waterproof, makes the Xperia Z2 LTE, Sony’s best ever premium smartphone offering to date. Speaking at the launch, Singer Sri Lanka PLC Group CEO Asoka Pieris said: “Two years ago in mid-2012 we had a media conference and we mentioned to the media that Singer is going to come in a big way into the mobile phone industry and I am proud to say today, two years later, that Singer has indeed done so in a very big way. “We are very happy to tell you that in the last quarter of last year, the December quarter, Singer was the No. 1 marketer of smartphones in Sri Lanka by a thin margin. In the first quarter of this year by a big margin Singer is again the No. 1 marketer of smartphones in Sri Lanka. That is how we have come up in the mobile phone industry. It shows the strength of Singer, to be able to come from nowhere and become the market leader. At the same time it shows the youthfulness of Singer and our ability to move fast.” Drawing comparisons with the international cricket, Pieris added that from among all consumer durable categories, mobile phones are the equivalent of T20 cricket due faster technology changes and hence companies are required to be more agile in order to keep up with changing needs and wants. “We are happy that we have been able to be that. And today we are tying up with Sony Mobiles to give our customers the opportunity to use the length and breadth of Singer’s distribution strength and aftersales service to gain access to one of the world’s best brands.” Sony South East Asia Sri Lanka Representative Office – Chief Representative M. Razali Ya’acub speaking at the launch, said: “I am grateful for your presence here today as we showcase the latest and greatest in mobile technology from Sony Mobile, and also to announce the start of what I am confident will be a long and fruitful partnership. Today, Sony is pleased to announce the appointment of Singer as our authorised distributor for the Xperia range of mobile phones and tablet devices in Sri Lanka. We are extremely excited and confident in the success of this collaboration. The decision to work with Singer, Ya’acub revealed, was an easy one and lay in Singer’s long history in Sri Lanka and its success in aspiring in its vision and mission of being the country’s foremost distributor, and its efforts to improve the quality of life of its consumers by providing comforts and conveniences at fair prices. “At the same time and perhaps more importantly, Singer’s sales and distribution infrastructure and commitment to providing the best service possible, a positive shopping experience and convenient hassle-free after sales service to consumers made them what they are today – a highly successful organisation. And the right choice for our Xperia range of products.” The Xperia range of mobile phones and smartphones will be available through Singer’s island-wide retail network, including, Singer Mega, Singer Plus and SISIL World stores, that comprise of over 400 retail outlets, as well as Singer’s digital media channel that serves 1,200 mobile phone dealer outlets across the country.
