Mobitel wins ‘Best Project’ award at NPME Awards 2013

The National Mobile Service Provider Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel showcased its strength yet again as the pioneer in mobile services by winning the ‘Best Project’ award at the National Project Management Excellence (NPME) Awards 2013, conducted by the Project Management Institute (PMI) Sri Lanka Chapter.

The NPME Awards was held for the first time this year by PMI to recognise and honour outstanding Sri Lankan management professionals of Project Management discipline. Mobitel was awarded ‘Best Project’ of the year for its successful completion of the initial phase of its Stage VII Network Expansion, which is expected to further enhance the scope of development of the telecommunications industry in Sri Lanka. “We are proud to win this award from a prestigious institution such as PMI which is known for specialising in project management. Receiving recognition from PMI for our tireless efforts is a compliment of the highest level for us at Mobitel,” said Mobitel Engineering and Operations SGM Rasantha Hettithanthrige. The initial phase of the Stage VII network expansion is primarily focused on developing mobile network coverage in rural areas which have enabled the general public with better access to telecommunication services. “This is a remarkable milestone for us at Mobitel with our innovative resource planning mechanism which works through a strong public-private partnership. We are really proud about this award given to us by the PMI which recognises our best practices in the Project Management domain,” said Mobitel Projects and Network Planning GM Viresh Dassanayake.
