WIS, a Sri Lankan company that provides financial solutions in the United Kingdom, has expanded its Sri Lanka office by adding a new wing recently, laying the platform for the company to increase its capacity in the coming months.

The new office boasts of collaborative work areas, state-of-the-art technology infrastructure and open office environment. The interior was designed by Architecture duo Lakdini and Kasun Wickramage. This enhanced environment will foster a more dynamic and productive atmosphere for the growing team.

The WIS Sri Lanka office is the offshoring arm of its UK Head Office and also provides BPO services to other leading businesses in UK. The office is centrally-located at Bernards Business Park, a state-of-the-art business workspace in Kohuwela with easy access to the city of Colombo. The expansion of the office is part of the WIS’ plan to boost its operations and grow its staff in Colombo during 2024 to keep up with increasing demand for new outsourcing opportunities and an uptick in UK-based companies wanting to establish their support teams in Colombo.

WIS was established in 2009 by its three Directors Wijay Kanagasundaram, Ifthikar Mohamed and Suneth Silva as an accountancy firm that primarily served clients in the UK. WIS Director Wijay Kangasundaram said: “We are constantly innovating and expanding our offerings to the UK market and have seen a surge in new clients. This expanded office will provide us with the necessary resources to continue this upward trajectory and serve our customers even better.”

WIS Director Ifthikar Mohamed said: “This expansion is a direct reflection of the tremendous demand we’re experiencing for our services in the UK and also the trust clients are placing on talent that Sri Lanka has to offer. When it comes to nurturing local talent, we have gone a step further by sponsoring talented individuals with professional qualifications such as CIMA and ACCA.”

WIS Director Suneth Silva said: “This enhanced environment will foster a more dynamic and productive atmosphere for our growing team. I am pleased to state that we are actively recruiting for a number of positions to support our continuous growth. For more information on available opportunities, please visit our website.”

Having recognised that its clients had several other financial needs including mortgages, insurances and wealth management, the firm diversified into these services focusing on client convenience and retention. This resulted in it growing to become a one-stop finance shop and thereby became the WIS Group of companies comprising WIS Accountancy, WIS Mortgages and Insurance and WIS Wealth.

WIS has several offices in the UK and an office in Sri Lanka which was established in 2013. Currently, the firm employs over 50 young, talented individuals supporting the day-to-day business operations both in Sri Lanka and the UK. While a majority of its staff members are based in Sri Lanka, a handful of Sri Lankan based staff have now moved to the UK to service clients there. Building on its link to the industry, WIS has also been recognised as a quality training partner with both ACCA and CIMA in Colombo.

During the course of 2024, WIS plans to tap into the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) by launching a cutting-edge, AI-driven mortgage application where users will be able to search and apply for a mortgage that suits their needs, via their mobile phones or tablets. At present, there is no such software available in the market and the company is confident that this launch will be well-accepted by the UK mortgage market.
