The Sri Lanka Export Development Board yesterday said Sri Lanka’s participation at Japan IT Week Spring 2026 has generated a potential business pipeline exceeding $ 2 million, as local ICT firms intensified efforts to enter the Japanese market.
The program supported 10 Sri Lankan ICT companies, delivering over 300 leads and more than 100 business meetings, alongside partnership discussions and joint venture prospects. The EDB said the initiative created “strong networking outcomes across all participants” and positioned firms for future deal conversions.
The exhibition, held from 6 to 10 April at Tokyo Big Sight, marked Sri Lanka’s second participation, organised in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Japan.
At the “Sri Lanka Pavilion,” companies showcased solutions across artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, software development and IT-enabled services, drawing interest from investors, industry stakeholders and potential partners.
The EDB said the engagement forms part of an ongoing program launched in 2024 with JICA to strengthen Sri Lanka’s ICT and business process management sector presence in Japan. The initiative supports around 30 firms, including SMEs and startups, through business coaching, market intelligence and structured matchmaking with Japanese counterparts.
Pre-event activities included business briefings, site visits and networking engagements aimed at preparing firms for market entry. These included sessions with Deloitte Tohmatsu Venture Support, exposure to shared office infrastructure at H1O Hamamatsucho developed by Nomura Real Estate Development, and a B2B matching forum at the Minato City Industry Promotion Centre.
Delegates also visited Tokyo Innovation Base and attended the AI Expo at the Tokyo International Forum, alongside an international seminar conducted by FRONTIER Co Ltd focusing on B2B engagement strategies.
A networking session at Shibuya Startup Support and a reception in Ginza further expanded engagement with regional and global stakeholders.
The EDB said the program strengthened Sri Lanka–Japan ICT collaboration and provided firms with market insights, industry connections and exposure required to scale exports, noting that sustained engagement will be required to convert leads into realised revenue.
