SLT‑MOBITEL on Tuesday categorically refuted recent claims circulating on social media regarding its 5G operations.
“These allegations are unfounded, misleading, and do not reflect the company’s approach or progress in advancing its 5G network,” SLT-MOBITEL said in a statement.
“While there have been ongoing discussions regarding the expansion and deployment of the 5G network, the company would like to emphasise that necessary measures are being taken to ensure an optimal rollout, while navigating current macroeconomic challenges to support the continued expansion of its 5G services,” it added.
For over 169 years, SLT‑MOBITEL has been at the heart of Sri Lanka’s connectivity journey, deeply committed to the highest standards of governance, transparency, and accountability. Decisions are guided by professional integrity and aligned with national priorities to advance digital inclusion, strengthen 5G infrastructure, and deliver reliable next-generation connectivity for all citizens.
“Our commitment is proven through action. SLT-MOBITEL pioneered South Asia’s first public 5G trials in 2019, achieved record-breaking speeds above 10Gbps, and expanded commercial 5G coverage to 18 districts islandwide, deliberately extending access into rural and regional areas to help democratise access and ensure no Sri Lankan is left behind in the digital future. These milestones symbolise technical achievements but also a national leap forward, part of a purposeful strategy to empower schools, SMEs, enterprises, and households with next‑generation digital capabilities,” SLT-MOBITEL said.
The launch of Sri Lanka’s first TRCSL‑approved 5G mobile router further demonstrates this commitment, bringing enterprise‑grade connectivity directly into homes, classrooms, and small businesses across the country.
Despite global challenges such as rising fuel costs, dollar fluctuations, and supply chain pressures, SLT‑MOBITEL maintained strong FY 2025 performance through cost savings and operational efficiency, balancing financial discipline with bold investment. The strategic acquisition of the 5G spectrum stands as a defining example of the long‑term vision to ensure Sri Lanka remains at the forefront of digital transformation.
SLT‑MOBITEL has also secured international certifications in cloud security, privacy, environmental management, and information security, reinforcing its dedication to responsible and sustainable innovation.
“Any assertions to the contrary are baseless and intended to erode public confidence. SLT‑MOBITEL will continue to act in the best interests of customers, employees, and the country, upholding trust as the foundation of service and advancing Sri Lanka’s digital future with integrity, inclusivity, and vision,” the statement added.
