Rootcode, a global software product engineering company, has announced its latest European Government partnership with the city of Porto, Portugal, focusing on developing an innovative Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven crop health management mobile app and custom-designed hardware.
The solution aims to help small-scale farmers and community gardeners in Porto adapt their farming practices to the effects of climate change, increase crop resilience and yields, and ensure sustainable food security for local agricultural communities. The solution is initially being piloted in the rural communities of Campanhã, Porto.
The solution leverages precision sensors and AI models to analyse key environmental variables, including temperature, humidity, soil quality, and climate data, to generate tailored, organic-farming-based recommendations. These insights will empower farmers to adapt their practices, enhance resilience against climate challenges, and optimise agricultural productivity.
The project is part of CommuniCity, a EU-funded initiative to drive citizen-centric innovation across diverse parts of society. Rootcode is collaborating closely with Porto Digital and Domus Social, two key municipal organisations in Porto, to support this solution’s implementation and community adoption.
