The Federation of Information Technology (Guarantee) Ltd., (FITIS) will hold the INFOTEL Kandy, from 7 to 8 March 2025 at the Kandy City Centre.
It will bring together businesses, entrepreneurs, and individuals in a collective effort to achieve Sri Lanka’s ambitious goal—a $ 15 billion digital economy by 2030.
The $ 15 billion target is not merely an aspiration but a necessity for Sri Lanka’s long-term economic resilience. In an increasingly digital world, countries that invest in technology-driven ecosystems see exponential growth, attracting foreign investment, boosting employment, and fostering innovation. FITIS recognises that Sri Lanka’s digital transformation must be inclusive, ensuring that businesses of all sizes—particularly micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs)—can leverage technology for sustained growth. Digitalisation is no longer a luxury but an economic imperative, and FITIS is committed to laying the foundation for a future where technology empowers every sector of the economy. INFOTEL Kandy stands as a powerful initiative in this mission, acting as a platform for knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and technological innovation.
Historically, INFOTEL has played a crucial role in shaping Sri Lanka’s digital landscape, showcasing cutting-edge solutions, fostering industry connections, and equipping businesses with the tools needed to navigate a digital-first world. By extending INFOTEL beyond Colombo to regional centres like Kandy, FITIS ensures that digital opportunities reach entrepreneurs, students, and professionals across the country. This decentralised approach is critical in closing the urban-rural digital divide, fostering an environment where digital transformation is a nationwide movement rather than an isolated urban trend.
A major focus of FITIS efforts is empowering MSMEs to integrate digital solutions into their operations. MSMEs form the backbone of Sri Lanka’s economy, contributing significantly to GDP and employment. However, many of these businesses struggle with digital adoption due to financial constraints, lack of expertise, and insufficient support networks. FITIS is addressing these challenges through targeted initiatives, offering training programs, business mentoring, and digital toolkits designed to help MSMEs scale efficiently in the digital age. By bridging the knowledge and accessibility gap, FITIS is ensuring that digitalisation does not remain the privilege of large corporations but becomes a driving force for businesses of all sizes.
Beyond businesses, digital transformation has far-reaching implications for governance, education, and everyday life. A strong digital economy enhances government efficiency, enabling streamlined public services, improved transparency, and smarter infrastructure. Similarly, the integration of technology in education can revolutionise learning, making high-quality resources accessible to students across the island. FITIS advocates for strengthening digital literacy initiatives to prepare Sri Lanka’s youth for the demands of a rapidly evolving job market. In a future where technology is the backbone of global industries, ensuring that the next generation is digitally fluent is essential to sustaining long-term economic growth.
Reaching the $ 15 billion digital economy target by 2030 will require a collective effort from the Government, private sector, educational institutions, and technology providers. While policy reforms and infrastructure investments are crucial, the role of industry leaders like FITIS cannot be overstated. FITIS is not only championing digital adoption but also facilitating cross-sector collaboration, bringing together key stakeholders to shape policies, share insights, and drive investment into the digital economy. INFOTEL Kandy, taking place at Kandy City Centre on 7 and 8 March 2025, serves as a dynamic forum for these discussions, providing a space where ideas translate into action and partnerships are forged to accelerate Sri Lanka’s digital future.
FITIS Chairman Indika De Zoysa said: “Technology is not just for a select few; it is for everyone. The future of Sri Lanka depends on how well we embrace digitalisation across all sectors. Our mission at FITIS is to ensure that no one is left behind in this journey. Through initiatives like I NFOTEL Kandy, we are taking digital awareness and opportunities to every part of the country, empowering businesses and individuals to be part of the digital revolution. Our $ 15 billion goal for 2030 is ambitious but entirely achievable if we work together to harness the power of technology.”
