The Federation of Information Technology (FITIS), the apex national body representing the IT industry in Sri Lanka, serving as a collective voice for the country’s key industry stakeholders held a media launch at the Organisation of Professional Associations (OPA) in Colombo with a gathering of high end media heads, announcing their strategic plan towards achieving the target set by the Government for $ 15 billion digital economy by 2030.
FITIS works to drive digital transformation, foster technological innovation, and support the growth of businesses ranging from startups to established enterprises. By facilitating industry collaboration, advocating policy reforms, and organising impactful events, FITIS plays a pivotal role in shaping Sri Lanka’s digital economy, enabling the country to harness new opportunities in the global technology landscape while supporting inclusive and sustainable economic development.
“Sri Lanka has set an ambitious target to build a digital economy. This goal is part of a broader strategy to transform Sri Lanka into a globally competitive, sustainable, and inclusive digital-first economy. The country is focusing on leveraging digital platforms and innovations to accelerate growth, improve governance, and create jobs,” said FITIS Chairman (Esoft Group Chairman/ Group Managing Director) Dr. Dayan Rajapakse addressing the media.
He assured the private sector collaboration with the Government through engaging with IT industry stakeholders, including international partners, and academia while scaling homegrown tech to global markets. The Chairman also emphasised about creating a stable environment for investors and attracting long-term growth and elevating Sri Lanka’s global tech identity and to make Sri Lanka the leading innovation and digital economic hub in Asia by fostering emerging technologies, enabling a future-ready workforce, and driving sustainable digital transformation that enhances global competitiveness and inclusive prosperity.
Dr. Rajapakse elaborated the program line-up of FITIS that strengthens the digital economy.
‘INFOTEL’ National ICT Exhibition is held annually since 1992, brings together a mix of stakeholders, including business leaders, government officials, entrepreneurs, professionals, and educational institutions, all focused on the latest developments in information and communication technology.
‘API Asia’ conference is dedicated to advancing digital transformation initiatives that enhance customer experience, optimise operational efficiency, and innovate business models. The conference highlights topics such as Artificial Intelligence, robotics, the Internet of Things (IoT), cybersecurity, enterprise resource planning (ERP), business innovation, telecommunications, digital government, fintech, and smart cities. Its primary aim is to support Sri Lankan and regional enterprises in transitioning from conventional practices to digitally empowered models, thereby accelerating operational excellence, customer engagement, and sustainable growth.
‘Digi SME’ (formally known as DigiGO) is a comprehensive initiative designed to empower Sri Lankan MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) to thrive in today’s digital landscape. Serving as a centralised platform, DigiSME provides MSMEs with easy access to digital tools, solutions, and resources tailored to their unique needs.
Young Computer Scientist (YCS) Competition is a prestigious national competition organised by FITIS with financial sponsorship from ESOFT Metro Campus and partnership with the Ministry of Education and the University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC).
The FITIS Digital Excellence Awards (DEX) is a distinguished annual event that accolades institutions demonstrating exceptional leadership and innovation in digital transformation.
FITIS also organises the ‘Sri Lanka Digital Day’, a landmark event that plays a pivotal role in advancing the nation’s digital transformation journey. This flagship gathering unites industry leaders, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and technology enthusiasts to engage in dynamic discussions on emerging trends, critical challenges, and promising opportunities shaping the digital ecosystem.
‘Open Forum’ of FITIS hosts discussions aimed at fostering stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors while championing the rights of end users within the ICT industry.
‘Technology Channel Conference’ is a milestone event focused on empowering the ICT infrastructure sector. The conference was designed to equip members and industry stakeholders with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate the challenges of the post pandemic landscape.
‘Higher Education Forum’, serves as a collaborative platform that brings together professionals, educators, and organisations at the intersection of education and technology.
