FITIS newly appointed Board of Directors
Dr. Dayan Rajapakse appointed as Chairman at Federation’s 8th Annual General Meeting
Federation of Information Technology (Guarantee) Ltd., (FITIS) held its 8th Annual General Meeting on 30 April at the Hilton Colombo Residencies. During this meeting the members elected Dr. Dayan Rajapakse as the new Chairman of FITIS succeeding Indika de Zoysa who completed his two-year tenure as the Chairman.
Addressing the AGM, the outgoing Chairman Indika De Zoysa highlighted the contributions made by FITIS to the ICT Industry, during the past two years. He stated that, “FITIS is now widely recognised by the Government and the ICT sector for its contribution to national policies, the assistance provided in the country’s journey towards digital transformation and most of all, setting the goal of achieving $ 15 billion in digital economy by 2030”.
As a respected leader in education and technology, Dr. Rajapakse is widely recognised for his contributions to advancing digital skills and innovation in Sri Lanka. Notably, he is the first individual to have served as both President of the Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL) (2014-2015) and now as Chairman of FITIS. He also serves as President of the Sri Lanka Association of Non-State Higher Education Institutes (SLANSHEI) and as Chairman and Managing Director of ESOFT Metro Campus.
Reflecting on his new role, Dr. Rajapakse said, “Our mission is to build a thriving digital ecosystem where innovation flourishes, businesses grow, and every Sri Lankan has the opportunity to benefit from the digital economy”. He also stressed the importance of regional collaboration and developing a future-ready workforce to sustain this transformation.
The new Board of Directors are expected to bring continuity and fresh momentum to FITIS’ efforts to support Sri Lanka’s digital transformation.
FITIS is committed to fostering sustainable growth in the ICT industry by addressing key policy issues, lobbying with state authorities, promoting alignment with regional and global industry bodies, and encouraging harmony and innovation within the sector. The federation represents the full spectrum of digital businesses — from emerging startups and SMEs to large local and multinational enterprises.
Through advocacy, public policy engagement, professional development, education, events, and business facilitation, FITIS enables its members to pursue greater success in both domestic and international markets. It also has a proven track record of shaping public sector policy that supports the digital economy.
Signature FITIS initiatives include DigiGo, which empowers SMEs; and the Young Computer Scientist competition, which promotes ICT adoption among school children. The federation also runs key industry events such as INFOTEL, APIAsia, and the DEX Awards. FITIS will expand its relationships with Government Authorities such as the Digital Economy Ministry, Education Ministry, Higher Education and Vocational Education, ICTA, Sri Lanka CERT, IDB and EDB while collaborating with industry partners to drive impact at scale.
In his address, Dr. Rajapakse committed to strengthening several priority areas during his tenure, including expanding FITIS membership and reinforcing the secretariat to better serve its members; deepening collaboration with government and regional industry bodies to create strategic value; supporting national digital economy goals through advocacy and consultancy; strengthening flagship programs such as INFOTEL, API Asia, DEX Awards, YCS and DigiGo; and increasing public awareness and digital literacy to ensure a more inclusive digital transformation.
