Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne attended the fifth edition of Asia Tech x Singapore (ATxSG), held from 27 to 29 May at Capella Singapore.
As Asia’s premier technology event, ATxSG brings together global leaders from government and industry to engage in dialogue on critical issues shaping the future of technology, while fostering cross-border collaboration on emerging digital trends. The 2025 edition featured high-level dialogues on key policy areas, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Digital Trust and Data Governance, Online Safety, Space Technology, and Quantum Communications.
On the sideline of the event, the Deputy Minister held a bilateral meeting with Minister of State for Digital Development and Information of Singapore Rahayu Mahzam. He outlined Sri Lanka’s digital transformation roadmap, emphasising initiatives in AI policy, digital infrastructure, and e-governance and sought enhanced cooperation and technical support from Singapore in advancing Sri Lanka’s digital ambitions.
At the Government-to-Government (G2G) Ministerial Roundtable, Deputy Minister Weeraratne shared Sri Lanka’s national efforts in AI governance and safety, underscoring the government’s proactive and ethical approach to the deployment of emerging technologies.
During his visit, the Deputy Minister also engaged in meetings with key stakeholders, including Minister of ICT and Innovation of Rwanda Paula Ingabire, the United States Coordinator for International Communications and Information Policy at the US Department of State Stephan Lang, the Chief Digital Officer of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Robert Opp, and the Director of AI Innovation at AI Singapore Laurence Liew.
In addition, the Deputy Minister met with representatives from the Global Finance and Technology Network (GFTN), the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) of Singapore, and the Temasek Foundation, exploring potential partnerships in innovation, tech capacity building, and policy advisory support. He also visited the regional headquarters of major global tech firms, including Meta, Google, Microsoft, and Amazon Web Services (AWS), where he discussed opportunities for strategic collaboration to accelerate Sri Lanka’s digital ecosystem and support digital skills development.
Deputy Minister Weeraratne was accompanied by High Commissioner Senarath Dissanayake, Advisor to the Ministry of Digital Economy Sumudu Ratnayake, and Minister/Head of Chancery of the High Commission Ahamed Razee during his official engagements.
