Dialog Axiata PLC, Sri Lanka’s premier connectivity provider, partnered with Orange Electric, the largest manufacturer of electrical and lighting products in Sri Lanka, to launch the first IoT Wi-Fi socket manufactured in Sri Lanka, the ‘Orange Electric Smart Socket’. The Smart Socket is another product introduced under the Dialog Smartlife Connected Home portfolio, the latest innovation in digital lifestyle and the Internet of Things (IoT) platform from Dialog.

Operating exclusively on the Dialog Smartlife platform, the Orange Electric Smart Socket is a wireless Plug and Play device that allows users to control electrical appliances in their home remotely, via the Dialog Smartlife mobile app, available on the Google Play and App Store. The app enables scheduling functions, including switching a particular device on and off and triggering on/off events from other connected sensors or devices. The technology allows you to gain full control over home appliances and is accessible from any location. The Smart Socket does not require users to replace any existing wall sockets, but to simply plug and play via connecting to the app.

Dialog’s Internet of Things (IoT) Service Portfolio ‘Smartlife’ was launched in early 2017, through the introduction of a suite of innovative digital lifestyle applications supporting IoT solutions such as Connected Home and Car Connect. Through a simple smartphone app and website, Smartlife consumers can create sequences of conditional statements called ‘scenes’ to automate their IoT devices, creating a smart home environment, offering versatility and adaptability.

Commenting on the launch of yet another first in Sri Lanka, Dialog Axiata Vice President (Digital Services) Fariq Cader said, “Dialog is committed to delivering world class technology solutions as espoused in our signature ‘The Future, Today’. With our foray into IoT related services last year and its growing service portfolio, we continue to create the space of the future for all Sri Lankans. The launch of the Smart Socket, in partnership with Orange, is a progressive step and will offer consumers versatility, ease of operation and unmatched convenience.”

Sharing his thoughts on the collaboration with Dialog Axiata, Orange Electric Managing Director Kushan Kodituwakku added: “As a pioneer of Sri Lanka’s IoT wave, we are privileged to partner Dialog to deliver solutions that will enable a smarter lifestyle for all its users. The Smart Socket is the newest addition to Orange’s vast range of home automation solutions, allowing users to access a completely new facet of home automation at their convenience.”

The Orange Electric Smart Socket is priced at Rs. 4,990 and will be available at selected Dialog Customer Centres and Orange Electric outlets island-wide, in ready-to-use kits that only require users to plug in the device to begin using it.
