The Colombo stock market yesterday closed in green following improved investor sentiments.
The ASPI was up 0.89% or 198.46 points to 22,407.04, while the active S&P SL20 gained 0.99% or 61.10 points at 6,242.75. Turnover was Rs. 2.72 billion involving 67.79 million shares traded. Foreign investors remained net sellers, posting a net outflow of Rs. 50.3 million.
First Capital said the investor sentiment improved, driven by renewed buying interest. HNW participation remained at average levels, while retail participation was high. The main positive contributors to the ASPI were DIAL, JKH, HAYL, MELS, and DIPD. The materials sector led the daily turnover with a share of 23%, followed by the capital goods, and diversified financial sectors collectively contributing 32%.
NDB Securities said high net worth and institutional investor participation was noted in Commercial Bank, Singer Sri Lanka and Hatton National Bank nonvoting. Mixed interest was observed in Commercial Credit & Finance, Digital Mobility Solutions Lanka and Haycarb whilst retail interest was noted in SMB Leasing, Industrial Asphalts and Ceylon Land & Equity.
Materials sector was the top contributor to the market turnover due to Samson International and Haycarb, whilst the sector index gained 1.86%. The share price of Samson International moved up by Rs. 13.50 to close at Rs. 490. The share price of Haycarb recorded a gain of Rs. 8.75 to close at Rs. 165.25.
The capital goods sector was the second highest contributor to the market turnover whilst the sector index increased by 1.74%.
Commercial Credit & Finance, Digital Mobility Solutions Lanka and Commercial Bank were also included amongst the top turnover contributors. The share price of Commercial Credit and Finance decreased by 25 cents to close at Rs. 119.75. The share price of Digital Mobility Solutions Lanka gained Rs. 3.75 to close at Rs. 173.75. The share price of Commercial Bank appreciated by 50 cents to close at Rs. 209.
