After a one and a half month foundation course in beauty culture, Seri Naturals (Pvt.) Limited today awarded 43 retiring women of Sri Lanka’s Army, Navy and Air Force with a certificate of completion and competence, thus empowering them with the necessary skills and knowledge to set up their own business in beauty care.

The workshops were conducted by renowned hair stylist and makeup artist Romesh Atapattu of Capello Salons in conjunction with Seri Naturals. The workshop covered areas such as how to set up your own business, performing a cleanup, bridal dressings etc.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony Seri Naturals Brand Manager Shayana Raat said, “We are happy and proud to assist the women of the armed forces who have sacrificed so much for the country and are overwhelmed by the success of the country’s first ever workshop for retiring women of the forces. All the ladies have all applied themselves very hard and these efforts have borne fruition today.”

In addition to all participants receiving a certificate, Seri Naturals also made a cash donation to the student with the highest grade which is to be used as seed capital to set up their own business. Capello Salons will also give an opportunity for participants with good grades to join Capello Salons as permanent staff members.

These trained entrepreneurs would also be an asset to the economy as they would be providing a means of employment to other youths in their town as well.

This program was carried out under the vision of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, who in 2010 initiated a program to provide vocational training for all members of the armed forces who have retired from active duty.

Under the program several forces personnel will be given vocational training during the year and Seri Naturals has already committed itself to running a beauty course for women of the forces who are still in active service and will look to involve itself in other workshops as well.
