Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardena says that compilation of laws for regulation of private schools is in the parliament now.

Accordingly, a regulatory body is to be set up for this purpose.

The private schools, commonly identified as international schools are registered as companies and currently there is no proper regulation for these schools.

Most of them teach foreign syllabi while some teach local syllabus in English medium.

The Minister states that the government expects to uplift the education of these schools to the accepted standards through these measures.
