EDEX Kandy Careers Expo 2024 ends

EDEX Kandy Careers Expo, concluded successfully on 18 February 2024, at the Kandy City Centre.

The highlight of the event was the seminar series delivered by prominent corporate personalities among whom was Sunil Dissanayake, who delivered a talk, on Soft Skills For Effective Leadership to a packed audience.

Dissanayake spoke of 26 soft skills which he had identified from his 50-year career holding senior management positions with multinationals in Dubai and Sri Lanka in both private and public sectors, in hospitality and human resources. 

The soft skills Dissanayake had identified, were delivered using live examples “Story Telling” of successful and unsuccessful implementation of soft skills which had led to the success or otherwise in performance, some of the key Soft Skills he had identify were Core Knowledge- Is to acquire knowledge of the job in addition to the academic, professional educational knowledge. Transformational Leader – Understanding opportunities to transform processes and procedures for greater effectiveness and efficiency. Collaborator – Ability to function effectively with all stake holders. Adaptability – Ability to very quickly understand the business of the organisation and the department. Humility -  Displaying humbleness without egoism. Empathy – Ability to understand the emotions and feelings of others and think from the other persons point of view. Leading by example – Being an example to the others in everything one does. Coaching and Mentoring – Ability to guide and teach. Handling Cultural Diversity – Understanding people from multiple backgrounds, their behaviors, habits and manner of speech and Leading by Walking Around – Observing the work environment.
