The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) Sri Lanka, in collaboration with global Human Resource (HR) consulting leader Mercer, yesterday announced the launch of The Great HR Awards 2025. 

This landmark initiative marks a new chapter in recognising HR excellence in Sri Lanka, positioning itself as the most prestigious accolade in the country’s HR landscape.

The awards are designed to celebrate organisations that set benchmarks in HR practices, workplace culture, technology integration and industrial relations. With Mercer’s global expertise and CIPM’s national leadership, the program blends international best practices with local relevance, ensuring recognition that is both meaningful and impactful.

Open to organisations of all sizes and sectors, The Great HR Awards 2025 provides a platform for businesses to showcase HR strategies that drive success and shape the future of work.

The Great HR Awards – Project Committee Chairman and CIPM Sri Lanka Vice President Dr. Neil Bogahalande said: “The Great HR Awards celebrate excellence in HR practices and inspire continuous improvement. By recognising impactful initiatives, we encourage others to raise their standards and highlight the role HR plays in building a future-ready workforce.”

Whether a large enterprise, a medium-sized company, or a small business—every story matters.”

The awards will feature several tiers of recognition:

  • Grand Winner: The highest honour, reserved for the organisation that demonstrates unmatched achievement across all evaluation criteria.
  • Category Awards: Recognising large enterprises, medium-sized organisations, and small-scale innovators with winners, runners-up and merit awards.
  • Sector Awards: Honouring organisations across 16 industries for sector-specific HR excellence.
  • Excellence Awards: Spotlighting innovation, strategic depth and measurable impact in specialised HR areas.

The awards offer multiple avenues of recognition and organisations of all sizes—large, medium and small—through winner, runner-up and merit titles, while sector awards will spotlight excellence across 16 key industries, including banking, apparel, agriculture, ICT, manufacturing, healthcare, tourism, logistics, state services and more. Designed to highlight strategic HR impact, these awards encourage organisations to benchmark their practices against top performers, gain national recognition, strengthen their employer brand and boost motivation by celebrating HR teams’ innovation and contributions.

“Being part of this project sets a new benchmark for HR firms—big or small—to learn, practice and celebrate excellence. With over 190 HR firm’s representatives attending today’s launch, we strongly encourage participation, so that organisations can grow, prosper and contribute to raising the standard of HR in Sri Lanka,” Mercer Director Shradhanjali Patnaik said.

Coinciding with the launch, CIPM Sri Lanka President Priyantha Ranasinghe and The Great HR Awards Chairman and CIPM Sri Lanka Vice Chairman Dr. Neil Bogahalande officially unveiled the website for the awards providing complete details and guidelines for participants ahead of the awards ceremony scheduled for 25 November at the Cinnamon Life, Colombo.

The application for the awards closes on 22 September, shortlisted applicants will then take part in in-person presentations scheduled for 27 to 28 October. The jury for The Great HR Awards 2025 is yet to be announced and details will be shared closer to the event.

Participation offers more than awards—it provides benchmarking opportunities, strengthens employer brands and celebrates HR teams for their contributions. The program also fosters knowledge sharing, enabling organisations to learn from peers and collectively raise the standard of HR in Sri Lanka.
