Bandaranaike Academy for Leadership and Public Policy announces courses for 2024

The BALPP’s new, specialised, professional development programs in 2024 will be launched in January 2024. These will be led by renowned academics, professionals and other experts, and the expert resource persons will take students on an immersive and interactive learning journey. These prestigious, advanced certification programs are curated to cater to evolving needs and contemporary issues, both local and global. 

The programs will be meticulously designed to cultivate strategic leadership in each field and to foster innovative and critical thinking in public policy. The courses and workshops will aim to equip professionals, academics, corporates and others, with cutting-edge knowledge, creativity, technical skills and industry-specific understanding, thus empowering them to navigate complex challenges and drive transformative growth in their respective fields. 

Participants will engage with the course directors and with each other, in a highly interactive manner through modern pedagogical methods. The sessions will promote analysis, critical thinking, vibrant discussion and debate. 

Some of the courses planned from January 2024 onwards include:

A new Leadership Nexus Workshop targeting aspiring political leaders will be conducted by a panel led by experienced trainer Chaaminda Kumarasiri. Participants will be taken through exciting two days of how ethical and value-based new political leaders can make an impact during Sri Lanka’s recovery from its on-going multiple crises. 

Two new Leadership programs, one targeting Corporates and Public Sector officials (Accelerated Leadership), and one targeting Gen Z youth (Gen Z Leaders), will be conducted by Dr. Nirmal De Silva and Asela Waidyalankara respectively, will also be launched early 2024. 

Expert Training Sessions on Climate Resilience Policy formulation, will be a special hybrid course designed and conducted by Prof. Buddhi Marambe and Dr. Rohan Pethiyagoda.

A Masterclass in Lawmaking to Consolidate Democracy and Fundamental Rights will be conducted by Prof. Savitri Goonesekere Emeritus Professor of Law, University of Colombo. 

A specialised Professional Development initiative on Policies for Affordable and Quality Healthcare will be conducted by Dr. Ravi Rannan-Eliya. 

Professional Skill-enhancement course on Teachers and Technology: Improving Impact of Education Delivery will be conducted by Kavindya Tennekone.

The ongoing, one year, post graduate diploma courses on Strategic Leadership, Education Policy Analysis, Economic Policy, Cybersecurity and Politics and Governance, will enter the second semester in March 2024, and will continue until September 2024. The second batch of students for post graduate diploma courses will be enrolled in October 2024.
