Ajith De Silva elected President of Colombo MBA Alumni Association

Top professional Ajith De Silva was unanimously elected as the Chair of the MBA Alumni Association at the Annual General Meeting held on 19 June at the Galle Face Hotel. Maliban Group CEO Ravi Jayawardena graced the occasion as Chief Guest and University of Colombo Vice Chancellor Prof. Indika Karunathilake was the Guest of Honour.

De Silva becomes the 28th President of the Association which commits its membership and all professionals to further education and assists the University in all its outreach programs. The highlight in their calendar is the platform they arrange for the business community and the highest Government officials to analyse the annual appropriation measures so as to be of value to the community. In addition, they create awareness in areas such as environment, governance, accounting and finance, and new technological advances. The professional community participates in these events because they are fundamentally knowledge-sharing exercises bringing the latest information on the particular subject.

The members of the Association, all alumni of the University, work in top decision-making positions in every brand of organisation. Thus, they are an integral part of the decision-making process of the country.

With the extensive experience that De Silva brings into his role, members are assured of a productive year. He is well known in the boardroom and is able to harness talented business leaders, practitioners, and start-ups for programs of the Association.

Further, the theme for the year is ‘Connected to Inspire: Professionalism Powering Progress.’ Under this theme, he has sufficient licence to bring together a strong nexus between academia and trade and commerce.

De Silva, an old boy of Sivali Central College, Ratnapura, obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Colombo in 2002, and Master of Business Studies (MBS) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 2010. He also holds a postgraduate diploma from the National University of Singapore (NUS). He is presently reading for the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree at the Open University of Colombo.

He has wide experience in sales and marketing in the automotive industry. He joined the Browns Group in 2014 and rose quickly to the position of General Manager. He currently serves as the Cluster Chief Operating Officer and manages a range of key brands, including the Exide, Lucas, Deganite hybrid care and key tyre brands. He oversees Sri Lanka’s only aluminium radiator plant. He is also a Director of Associated Battery Manufacturers (Ceylon) Ltd. (ABM).

He has held several positions at the Colombo MBA Alumni Association, such as Treasurer, Chairman of the Post Budget Forum, President, and Deputy President. He is also President of the Browns Group Sports Club, Vice President of the Mercantile Hockey Association (MHA), and an Executive Committee Member of the Burgher Recreation Club (BRC).
