Suwasevana Hospital launches state-of-the-art Cardiothoracic Modular Theatre in Kandy

The new modular theatre was officially inaugurated by Maldivian High Commissioner Masood Imad at a special ceremony attended by distinguished guests and members of the hospital’s leadership team.

Equipped to international standards, the theatre integrates cutting-edge technology, including laminar airflow, HEPA filtration, and antimicrobial wall coatings, to maintain ultra-sterile conditions. Precise control of temperature and humidity, combined with these features, significantly reduces infection risk and enhances surgical outcomes, particularly for high-risk procedures such as Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG), valve repairs, and surgeries for congenital heart defects.

The theatre is supported by a dedicated Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU), which features 24/7 monitoring, ventilators, intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), and continuous telemetry. Staffed by a skilled team of cardiac intensivists and trained nurses, the CICU ensures expert post-operative care from admission through recovery.

In addition, Suwasevana’s in-house blood bank facilitates rapid transfusions and provides critical support during surgical procedures, enhancing patient safety and treatment efficiency.
