SLI ’Call to Donate’ CSR initiative extends a helping hand to Apeksha Hospital Paediatric Ward

Synonymous with the efforts of securing the future of the children of the nation, Sri Lanka Insurance’s “Call to Donate” CSR initiative yet again extends a helping hand to Apeksha Cancer Hospital Maharagama facilitating the construction of two isolation units in the Pediatric Ward.  

In addition, Sri Lanka Insurance reaches out to the Apeksha Cancer Hospital in the hour of need to provide essential medicine for the children getting treatments.  Based on the urgent requirement of the hospital Sri Lanka Insurance donated Rs. 3.7 million worth of medicine with the support of Lanka Hospital who assisted in procuring the essential medicine urgently.

The isolation units and essential medicine were handed over to the Apeksha Cancer Hospital with the participation of Apeksha Hospital Former Director Dr. Vijith Gunasekara, Consultant Clinical Oncologist Dr. Thushari Hapuarachchi, SLIC Acting Chief Officer - Life Dayaratne Perera, SLIC Chief Information Officer Aloka Jayawardena, SLIC DGM/ Head of Marketing Namalee A. Silva and the staff members of both institutions.

All the donations were made from the funds generated through the “Call to Donate” CSR initiative launched with the aim of raising awareness about cancer and donating funds to the Pediatric ward of Apeksha Cancer Hospital Maharagama. Understanding the utmost importance of nurturing and upbringing of the children, Sri Lanka Insurance is continuously engaged in projects and activities that help secure the future of the children.  The donations were one such initiative taken to safeguard and empower the younger generations of the country.

Through the previous call to donate projects, SLIC was able to purchase a much-needed CPAP machine, essential medicines and prosthesis limbs for cancer survivors in 2015 and 2016.

Initiated in 2015 ‘Call to Donate’ is an initiative driven by the aspiration to create awareness of the increasing threat of cancer among people of Sri Lanka to give greater attention to this rising problem and to be compassionate about those who are affected by this terminal illness.
