Nawaloka Hospitals PLC celebrated its 40th anniversary with a landmark event at the Specialist Centre, Nawaloka Hospital yesterday.
The highlight of the ceremony was the official unveiling of a commemorative postage stamp and the 40th anniversary logo, marking four decades of excellence since the hospital’s establishment in 1985.
The commemorative 25-rupee postage stamp, issued in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Postal Department, was officially unveiled by Chairman Dr. Jayantha Dharmadasa, alongside Deputy Chairman Anisha Dharmadasa and Executive Director Prof. Lal Chandrasena. The ceremony was further honoured by Emeritus Prof. A.H. Sherifdeen, who attended as Chief Guest and was attended by the hospital’s consultants, nursing staff, employees and other distinguished guests.
Chairman Dharmadasa said, “Today, Nawaloka Hospitals proudly celebrates 40 years of leadership in Sri Lanka’s healthcare sector. This milestone is marked by the unveiling of our new 40th Anniversary logo and commemorative stamp, both symbols of progress, compassion and trust”.
The newly launched 40th Anniversary logo, featuring the auspicious colours blue and orange—designated as the lucky colours for 2026—will serve as the hospital’s refreshed brand identity, symbolising progress, trust and continuity.
Emeritus Prof. A.H. Sherifdeen said, “I still remember the early days of Nawaloka Hospital and it is remarkable to see how far the institution has progressed—today it stands equipped with world-class facilities and driven by innovative technology. I warmly congratulate the board of directors on this significant milestone and wish Nawaloka continued success as it leads Sri Lanka’s healthcare sector into the future.”
Since opening its doors in 1985, Nawaloka Hospitals has been at the forefront of private healthcare in Sri Lanka, being the first private institution to perform complex cardiac surgeries, bone marrow transplants and neurosurgeries. The 40th anniversary celebration reflects its pioneering journey and continued dedication to patient-centred care.
Nawaloka Hospitals Deputy Chairman Anisha Dharmadasa said, “Nawaloka has set the benchmark for medical excellence, pioneering innovation and empathy at every stage. Guided by our motto, ‘Healing with Feeling,’ we are committed to advancing healthcare with compassion and innovation.”
Looking ahead, the hospital announced its plans to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into its medical services, aiming to enhance efficiency, support advanced research and improve patient outcomes with a focus on early risk detection and preventive care. Importantly, AI will be used to complement medical expertise, empowering doctors to provide more precise and personalised treatment.
