Muslim Aid Sri Lanka, in its efforts to overcome the pandemic situation, continues to engage in COVID-19 aid and relief work around the island.

Following its donation of essential medical equipment worth Rs. 30 million, Muslim Aid once again reached out to a hospital in a rural region of Sri Lanka to assist with life-saving equipment for the treatment of COVID-19 patients.

On 27 July, hospital equipment worth Rs. 6 million was handed over to the Base Hospital – Puttalam. The Hospital’s Medical Superintendent D.A.C. Dissanayaka, doctors, nurses and management staff received the consignment of medical items from Muslim Aid. The items included a ventilator, three pulse-oximeters, one multipara monitor, 36 nebulisers and 450 PPE kits – both reusable and disposable.

Also attending the occasion were distinguished guests from the Buddhist, Hindu and Muslim clergy. The respected members of the clergy expressed their appreciation of Muslim Aid Sri Lanka for reaching out to help the people of Puttalam and supporting the hardworking staff of the Base Hospital who are on the front lines, risking their own lives trying to provide the best of care and services to patients. During the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, Muslim Aid supported thousands of vulnerable and daily wage-earning families through the provision of dry ration packs in a number of districts in the country. Muslim Aid also handed over hygiene packs to the Head of National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), to be distributed in selected quarantine centers in the country.

As such, Muslim Aid will continue its efforts to battle the pandemic and assist the most vulnerable families in the country by provision of emergency relief and assistance to the health sector.
