In view of providing the best quality and advanced medical services to the people with increased accessibility and affordability, Melsta Hospitals Ragama recently declared open its Gastrointestinal Centre, one of the very few fully state-of-the-art and purpose-build centres dedicated to treat intestinal and related diseases in the private healthcare sector of Sri Lanka.

Part of Melsta Health which is a fully owned subsidiary of the leading diversified conglomerate Melstacorp PLC, Melsta Hospitals Ragama now offers a comprehensive range of gastrointestinal investigations by some of the top leading consultants in the country, assisted by well trained nurses and technicians.

The Gastrointestinal Centre is equipped with some of the latest equipment and technology, primarily designed to ease patient movement whilst ensuring that all patients receive a well satisfied experience and outcome at very affordable rates. A significant number of people live with digestive symptoms such as frequent diarrhoea, gas, bloating, abdominal pain, and bleeding while passing motion to name a few, and unfortunately many often fail to realise that these could lead to more serious conditions.

The timely initiative to build such a facility comes after Melsta Hospitals identified that there is an increased gap and requirement for gastrointestinal procedures in Sri Lanka and especially the need for everyone having to travel to Colombo to receive such treatments. Now, people in and around Gampaha and Colombo can have access.

“The aim of Melsta Hospitals is to work closely with the consultants at Colombo North Teaching Hospital to offer comprehensive medical care at affordable prices where everyone can have access to. The commencement of kidney transplant surgeries, total range of urology procedures and now the Gastroenterology department are a few milestones the hospital is able to establish in such a short time. Melsta Hospitals is growing stronger with every aspect focused on affordability and quality, with plans underway to begin cardiology, cardiac surgery, and neurosurgery along with international accreditation in the near future,” said Melsta Hospitals Executive Director/CEO Dr. K. Thiyagarajah Iraivan.

This is one of the very few recent introductions of Melsta Hospitals Ragama. The hospital also invested heavily to expand its entire urology department to now include a complete, affordable range of urology and laser surgeries and kidney transplant surgeries.  Since its acquisition and rebranding in early 2020, Melsta Health Ltd. is continuously thriving to set some of the best standards in the healthcare sector of Sri Lanka with Melsta Hospitals Ragama. It established a urology and transplant centre and now the gastrointestinal centre. Its modern MRI, CT and radiology services are some of the best in the sector. The hospital also focuses on oncology namely in breast care and breast cancer, as non-communicable diseases continue to rise.

Melsta Hospitals Ragama places quality and continuous improvements at the heart of everything it does. It emerged as of the few healthcare institution in the country to be accredited with ISO 9001:2015, ISO 22000:2018, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 international standards. Its immediate parent Melsta Health also manages Joseph Fraser Memorial Hospital, a name synonymous with providing quality healthcare for women and children, Melsta Labs which operates a growing network of laboratories and Melsta Pharmacy.
