Lanka Hospitals PLC, an internationally-accredited healthcare provider in the forefront of the medical industry, partnered with the Sri Lanka College of Haematologists (SLCH) to conduct a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session on Flow Cytometry (FCM) in haematological diagnosis recently at the Lanka Hospitals auditorium.

This activity brought together both the visiting resource person, Professor Bakul Dalal, Clinical Professor of Haematology, Vancouver General Hospital, Canada and the local consultant haematologists. They presented cases and made useful presentations on the topic. The training needs and the possibilities of locating training centres in Canada for technicians and doctors were also discussed.

MD trainees, consultant haematologists from all parts of the island and laboratory technical staff from Lanka Hospital Diagnostics (LHD) participated and benefited immensely from this training. Expertise on FCM is still in its infancy in Sri Lanka and LHD is the only private laboratory in the country to have this diagnostic facility. Therefore patients from around the country with leukaemias, lymphomas and other diseases are specifically diagnosed using this diagnostic tool. Thus events such as these are platforms from which expertise and knowledge are shared for the benefit of the patient.

Professor Dalal visited the Haematology laboratory at Lanka Hospitals Diagnostics (LHD) and met the laboratory technical staff for a discussion on technical aspects of FCM. Lanka Hospitals Corporation (LHC) along with LHD look forward to many such events with joint Public-Private Partnership, which in turn will nurture and support development of health care in various different aspects. The enhancement of healthcare from such partnerships described above will only be visible in years to come.  The event was sponsored by Beckman Coulter and SLCH.
