Lanka Hospitals announced that it has become the first healthcare service provider to integrate with GovPay, Sri Lanka’s Government Digital Payment Platform. The collaboration also marks GovPay’s 100th onboarded institution — a milestone in the nation’s ongoing transition towards secure, transparent, and cashless public payments.

The MoU was handed over by LankaPay Chief Executive Officer Channa de Silva, and signed on behalf of Lanka Hospitals by Group Managing Director Chaaminda Kumarasiri in the presence of Lanka Hospitals Chairman, senior leadership, Maj. Gen. Dr.Chrisantha Fernando (Retd.), and representatives from ICTA and LankaPay, including ICTA Board Director Harsha Purasinghe, and ICTA Program Manager Lead – Digital Government/Digital Economy Udaya Kasthurirathne.

GovPay — developed through a national collaboration led by the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) in partnership with LankaPay and under the stewardship of the Digital Economy Ministry — provides a single, secure gateway for citizens to make government-related payments via internet and mobile banking apps and popular fintech wallets. The platform is designed to reduce cash handling, cut queuing times, strengthen revenue collection transparency, and bring Sri Lanka’s payment infrastructure in line with international best practice.

Lanka Hospitals Group Group Managing Director Chaaminda Kumarasiri said, “Integrating GovPay is an important step in enhancing the patient experience.” He further commented: “Lanka Hospitals occupies the unique position of a State-Owned Enterprise governed by astute Government protocols and oversight, while also operating with the agility and competitiveness of a private healthcare partner. GovPay cuts across both facets of our organisation — reinforcing governance and security on the one hand, and improving responsiveness and operational efficiency on the other. This integration makes paying for care simple and secure for both local patients and overseas visitors — and complements our broader digital transformation goal to deliver accessible, modern healthcare.”

ICTA Board Director Harsha Purasinghe said, “We are thrilled to welcome Lanka Hospitals, a premier healthcare institution, to the GovPay network. This landmark partnership not only enhances the convenience of digital payments for patients but will also be a powerful catalyst in driving greater citizen adoption of digital payments nationwide.”

Welcoming Lanka Hospitals to GovPay, LankaPay CEO Channa de Silva added: “We are pleased to have Lanka Hospitals join the GovPay network, which is the fastest growing digital transformation initiative of the Government. By joining as the 100th entity, this collaboration brings the benefits of enabling digital payments to the healthcare sector in Sri Lanka, supporting our shared vision of a more inclusive and efficient digital economy.”

For patients, carers, and insurance partners, GovPay availability at Lanka Hospitals means hospital bills — including inpatient and outpatient charges and quotations — can now be settled quickly and securely using participating bank apps and fintech wallets in real time. The new payment option will minimise queues, reduce manual processes and time-consuming cash handling, increase transactional transparency and auditing, and strengthen internal operational efficiency. Students of Lanka Hospitals Academy will also be able to pay for diploma and certificate courses and other services through the same digital channels.
