Dr. Nimali Dilrukshini Vidanagamage Jayasuriya has been elected as the 20th President of the Sri Lanka College of Sexual Health and HIV Medicine.
The induction ceremony was held on 26 April, at the Kingsbury Hotel in Colombo.
Dr. Jayasuriya is a Consultant Venereologist attached to the National STD/AIDS Control Program, with over 18 years of extensive experience in sexual health, HIV medicine, and public health.
In her induction speech, she stated that her tenure will focus on advancing sexual health and HIV care through collaboration, innovation, and evidence-based practices. Her key initiatives include launching a sustained, College-led public awareness campaign on HIV and STI prevention, as well as introducing a dedicated educational programme for general practitioners on STI management.
She also emphasised her commitment to strengthening capacity building and professional development, while enhancing academic excellence through the promotion of research. Dr. Jayasuriya noted that she looks forward to working closely with the council, college members, and other stakeholders.
Her leadership is expected to contribute towards achieving the Triple Elimination targets, including ending AIDS and eliminating curable STIs and hepatitis in Sri Lanka.
