Ceylinco Life completes six ‘Waidya Hamuwa’ free health camps in first half of 2025

Ceylinco Life has successfully conducted six free health camps under its flagship ‘Waidya Hamuwa’ (Meet the Doctor) community health program in the first half of 2025, continuing the Company’s longstanding commitment to improving public health outcomes in underserved areas.

Commencing from the Northern Province, the camps were held in Nelliyady, Chulipuram and Mannar, and moved on to Kebithigollewa, Beliatta and Deniyaya, reaching more than 1,200 individuals who otherwise face limited access to essential health services.

The ‘Waidya Hamuwa’ health camps offer a comprehensive package of screening and diagnostic services aimed primarily at the early detection of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). Participants received tests including Random and Fasting Blood Sugar, Blood Pressure, Electrocardiogram (ECG), Instant Cholesterol, and Urine tests for Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) screening. Body Mass Index (BMI) measurements and vision checks were also conducted. This year, Ceylinco Life introduced a haemoglobin test as part of the program, enabling the identification of additional health concerns related to anaemia and other conditions.

Each camp was staffed by qualified doctors and medical support teams that worked alongside Ceylinco Life branch employees and promotional staff to deliver these services efficiently. Following the examinations, participants were able to discuss their results directly with doctors, obtain prescriptions for medications where necessary, and receive personalised guidance on maintaining a healthy lifestyle to prevent or manage chronic diseases.

The company said the medical teams identified multiple previously undiagnosed conditions among attendees, including diabetes, hypertension, bronchial asthma, fungal infections, dyslipidaemia, and heart-related ailments. These findings highlight the critical role such community-based interventions play at a time when lengthy waiting periods for public healthcare and the high cost of private care pose barriers to timely diagnosis and treatment, the company said.

In a novel initiative this year, Ceylinco Life distributed vegetable seed packets to all participants, encouraging families in rural communities to cultivate home gardens. This approach aims to promote better nutrition, self-sufficiency and long-term health.
