Each citizen is an owner and leader of their country and the primary task of leading the policies of their nation is the job of the owner of the land equivalent to the employer of a company – Pic by Shehan Gunasekara

The word government is often insinuated to mean a select set of persons who ‘govern’ a nation. The correct definition is that a government is a process of administering a country in which the main players are the people who are the bosses of the land who elect a small set of representatives as their servants. Hence the term ‘servant of the people’ in referring to politicians. Thus, Sri Lanka has 225 servants – of the people. Their role is to serve us; i.e. the bosses of the land who are referred to as ‘the masses.’ These servants are recruited by us on our vote – the vote of the people – which is our contract with our employees aka the servants.

Employees cannot be left to their own devices. They should be supervised. The main concepts on what they should be working on should be given by the hierarchy who appoints them i.e. us the people; the employers. Thus, if the employee fails in his mission – if the servant fails in the duty – the master is held responsible. If the servant or employee steals for a long, prolonged period of time and if the employers have repeatedly recruited them, then it is primarily the fault of the employer. If the employee – the servant – has been consistently lazy and absconded the duty they are tasked with, it is primarily the negligence of the master or the employer because the employers are expected to be doing as vast amount of work even more than the employee – monitoring, providing new ideas for better management, developing new concepts etc.

Thus, if the employer has merely recruited the employee – the servant – and sat back and merely waited for the results and the servants did not deliver it – the fault is of the employers – the masters – because they have thought they are the servants. Thus they have allowed the servants to think that they the servants are the masters.

Each citizen is an owner and leader of their country and the primary task of leading the policies of their nation is the job of the owner of the land equivalent to the employer of a company. It is the employer who has to be assertive, come up with the ideas and the plans to develop the land or company which he owns. Thus, let us wake up to this fact and start our atonement if we have not done this for 74 years and absconded our duty. Let us start initiating and leading the concepts and the projects for the revival of Sri Lanka which is what employers or masters do.
