The biographical drama “Michael”, directed by Antoine Fuqua, opened in nine cinemas across Sri Lanka yesterday, marking its local theatrical release.
Screenings are currently underway at Kandy City Centre, Liberty by Scope Kollupitiya, SCOPE Cinema – Colombo City Centre, SCOPE Cinema – Havelock City Mall, PVR Cinema, Ram Cinema, Regal Cinemas, Lite Cinemas and JP Cineplex.
The film chronicles the life and legacy of pop icon Michael Jackson, tracing his journey from a gifted child performer in the Jackson 5 to one of the most influential entertainers in global music history. It focuses particularly on his rise through the 1970s and 1980s, highlighting his transformation into a global superstar and the creative drive behind his most iconic performances.
Portrayed by his nephew Jaafar Jackson, the film explores both the triumphs and personal struggles behind the fame, including his complex relationship with family and the pressures of stardom.
Michael premiered internationally earlier this month.
