A woodland wonderland at the heart of Havelock City

An eco-habitat created on a slab of concrete representing a botanical masterpiece is a one-of-a-kind concept that makes Havelock City an exclusive address in town. Ready to boast lush tropical greenery that would span six acres upon completion, this roof garden could be the largest intensive roof garden in the world.

The Havelock City commercial and residential project is a ‘city within a city’ constructed on the largest cleared area in the heart of Colombo. Havelock City would comprise eight residential towers, Sri Lanka’s largest shopping mall and two office towers.

“This is a unique concept that makes Havelock City one of the most exclusive landmarks in the region. The six acre garden is a haven for family and friends that provides an entire botanical garden experience for our patrons,” said Havelock City Design Coordinator Dr. Senaka Dharmatilleke.

Explaining the concept, he elaborated that a void deck located on Level Two of each tower will become a pavilion or verandah that will connect each tower with the roof garden. Residents in each of the eight towers have access to this garden by entering it from their respective second storey decks.

The garden, built on reinforced structural concrete slab is landscaped with an abundance of trees and greenery similar to any botanical garden. It is a haven of indigenous plants and trees from the wet zone like kohomba, ficus benjamina, maila, ehela and even coffee

The clever integration of the state-of-the-art clubhouse to the garden would make this garden even more phenomenal. A series of cascading pools built adjacent to the swimming pool embodying one large water body is a visual treat. A children’s swimming pool adjoins the main pool and a main deck is strategically placed to give guests a spectacular view of the entire bathing area.  A BBQ pavilion will be available for outdoor entertainment. The clubhouse would boast of amenities such as squash and badminton courts, banquet facilities, a sauna, Jacuzzi, gym and day care center making pleasure and recreation a unique experience. The social hub of this massive development, the clubhouse is a place to relax after a hard day’s work or to stay active allows residents to enjoy the serenity of the landscape.

Bearing in mind that recreation plays a big part in the lives of children, the Havelock City roof garden has a creative kid’s playground replete with monkey bars, swings, climbing frames and other fun activities. A salient feature of this area is the special precautions taken to ensure the safety and security of children using this play area.  

Adding to the ambiance of elegant simplicity, the rooftop garden has a walking-cum-jogging track that can be used along with the open-air gymnasium. Special exercise machines and workout bars have been installed for those interested in working outdoors.

Built for an extraordinary outdoor living experience, this garden has numerous themed areas. In keeping with the Japanese art form of tranquility and serenity, a uniquely designed bamboo pool adds to the soothing environment where guests can kick back, relax and listen to the ambient sounds of the gently flowing water.

Another unique feature are the landscaped themed garden concepts such as spice gardens, fragrant gardens and a kitchen garden that adds to the foliage and texture as well as bringing year-round splendor to the roof top. Once completed, this rooftop will be an undulating landscape to take away the monotony of a flat surface.

Whilst two residential towers have already been completed and are now occupied, the entire City is slated to be completed by 2015. Once completed, the Havelock City will be the condominium of elegant simplicity with the most unimaginable garden exclusively designed for residents and their guests.
