‘Sriyani’ in its modern iteration is a family-run venture headed by its Founder and Chairman Mariyapillai Selvaraj, along with Directors Madushika Selvaraj, Dhinushika Selvaraj, and Shabrajith Selvaraj, who oversee its entire operation. As a company, they remain committed to corporate and social responsibility while expanding its reach within the country as the company diversifies its interests and strives towards the next decades as a leading retailer.

“We conduct our operations with honesty, integrity, and respect for the rights and interests of our customers. In all our actions, we strive to ensure that all economic, environmental, and social factors are considered. We believe that this approach, driven by our principles of respect, rigour, and community involvement, makes us more responsible and informed as a company,” Madushika stated.

Over the years, Sriyani has continued to revolutionise the fashion and retail industry through its services. The flagship stores boast modern design aesthetics and the latest visual merchandising technology, enabling consumers to choose and purchase their products with a marked difference from other stores.

Sriyani is adding another jewel to its crown with the launch of Khayal, its latest line of occasion wear. At the exclusive press conference held at Taj Samudra Hotel Colombo, Director Dhinushika announced: “The word ‘Khayal’ translates to fantasy and celebrations. Inspired by magical Indian weddings, we are launching a unique ceremonial and festive-fusion collection that is unrivalled in its decadence and one-of-a-kind artistry.”

The debut showcase of Khayal’s first collection will take place at the Earl’s Regency Hotel, Kandy on 11 February. Kandy, being the cultural capital of the island, is surrounded by a rich history and tradition; making it the perfect destination to launch Khayal. The collection offers a wide range of luxurious lehengas, an exquisite range of sarees, three-piece formal suits, designer jackets, one-of-a-kind blazers, and sherwanis. The elegant new segment offers the ultimate wedding wardrobe for both brides and grooms featuring breath-taking looks for any occasion and ceremonial celebrations.

Khayal features more than 100 one-of-a-kind styles with modern silhouettes that cater to the bride, groom, and wedding guests. The fashion show consists of segments of evening wear, occasion-worthy outfits, wedding guest attires, and a stunning bridal collection for the finale. The designs are hand-picked in distinctive colours and fabrics with intricate embroideries from a gloriously rich Indian aesthetic. The colour palette for Khayal consists of dreamy shades of white through romantic pastels to bold magentas in a range of luxe fabrics such as lace, tulle, satin, and sequin. The men’s collection also highlights signature tailoring, the modern design aesthetics and includes versatile prints and patterns.

“Hindu brides are faced with limitations for bridalwear locally. We are delighted to expand the range of South Indian-influenced outfits and kanchipuram sarees to offer more opulence. Traditionally from the South of India, these sarees are made of heavy silk by skilled craftsmen and come in bold, bright colours with elaborate patterns,” Dhinushika noted.

Also speaking at the press conference, Brides of Sri Lanka Founder and Managing Director Nelum Haththella stated: “Brides of Sri Lanka is the official bridal magazine partner for the showcase. At a time like this, it is imperative that media organisations portray a positive image of Sri Lanka and the wedding industry. We are delighted to extend our support to local events of this grandeur. Khayal, as a luxury bridal wear brand is a promising prospect, and as the exclusive bridal magazine partner, we hope to help them make their mark in the Sri Lankan wedding industry.”

Popular local clothing brand Moose Clothing, which has been showcasing its versatile casual clothing range at Sriyani Dress Point, has come on board as the main sponsor for this event. CEO of Moose Clothing Hasib Omar said, “Moose Clothing has always stepped up to support the local businesses over the years. We are passionately driven by the vision to be an international clothing brand which delivers exceptional value. Our products are sold in Africa, the Middle East and India. The company has a long-term goal of representing Sri Lanka on the global fashion stage.”

Lassana Flora, a leader in the floral industry known for producing the best floral arrangements in Sri Lanka, will be the floral and decoration partner. Earl’s Regency, a premier five-star getaway among luxury hotels in Sri Lanka and one of the finest hotels in Kandy, will be the official hospitality and venue partner, while Haut Monde Event Management is the official event and PR partner.
