The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Netherlands, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), participated at the “Embassy Festival 2025” held in The Hague on 6 September.
The Embassy organised a Sri Lanka pavilion showcasing Sri Lanka tourism, culture, cuisine, tea and handicrafts. This event, organised by the Municipality of The Hague was opened by The Hague Mayor Jan Van Zanen and over 40 Embassies participated at the event attracting over 60,000 Dutch and international visitors.
The event showcased Sri Lanka as a premier travel destination with many attendees expressing keen interest in visiting the country. Tourism promotional materials, including brochures, maps, and publications, were distributed throughout the day. A large commercial screen displayed vibrant visuals of Sri Lanka’s scenic landscapes, cultural landmarks, and adventure experiences, offering visitors an immersive introduction to the country.
Authentic Sri Lankan cuisine served as a major attraction at the pavilion, yellow rice, dhal curry, chicken curry, kottu, egg hoppers, hoppers, vade, cutlets, and roti with ‘lunu miris’ were much sought after and enjoyed by the many visitors. Ceylon tea and faluda were also popular.
Traditional cultural performances by a dancing troupe from the Sri Lankan community in the Netherlands showcased traditional dances, including the Mangalam dance, Kulu dance, and fusion dance which were enjoyed by all.
Handcrafted Sri Lankan products, such as wooden masks, batik textiles, soft toys, and jewellery were exhibited providing attendees with insight into the island’s rich and vibrant traditions.
