Rivini Sesanya Karunaratne, a three-time award winner of the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition, has secured a silver award in their recently held competition in 2025.
This is an annual essay-writing competition organised by the Royal Commonwealth Society and a record-breaking 53,434 entries from all Commonwealth regions were recorded in the year of 2025.
Prior to this event, she has also won a bronze award in the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition 2024, and a gold award in the same competition in 2023, despite it being her first attempt at competing in this prestigious competition for young writers. She has time and again proven her ability to write rather compellingly, and continues to thrive by perfecting her craft.
Rivini is also a well-rounded student at school, having served as a Junior Prefect in 2023 and taking up the role of a Senior Prefect at Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya in 2026. She is an active member of the school’s shooting team. She was actively involved in the Girl Guide movement from 2020 to 2025, achieving several milestones of the scouting ladder.
She enjoys learning new languages while further perfecting her Sinhala, English and French proficiencies, believing that language plays a crucial role in the intellectual development of a person. She continues to excel in both academics and extracurricular activities, providing a good example to her juniors and peers, who at times become her biggest supporters.
