A unique showcase of 50 greatest paintings in art history titled “Masterpieces Unveiled” kicked off yesterday at the Sky Gallery of the Fareed Uduman Art Forum, 65/9 Kirula Road Colombo 5.

The exhibition continues till Sunday 28 January from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

In an era where geographical distances can separate us from the cultural treasures housed in far-away galleries and museums, the Fareed Uduman Art Forum aims to break down these barriers. By curating exhibitions that showcase the works of great painters, the Forum seeks to enrich the artistic experience of the Sri Lankan community, fostering a deeper connection with global art. Last year, Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin were exclusively featured in separate and immensely successful exhibitions.

The FUAF now brings to the people of Sri Lanka another stellar exhibition at Sky Gallery. A carefully curated exhibition of the 50 Greatest Paintings. Fine museum quality canvas prints framed in the exact sizes of the originals painted by these great artists. Masterpieces Unveiled is not just an exhibition; it’s a celebration of human creativity. A testament to the enduring power of art, to transcend time, and connect us across centuries. This extraordinary showcase promises to be a visual journey through the ages, highlighting iconic masterpieces that have defined, refined and shaped the world of art. An unparalleled collection, spanning diverse periods, styles, and artistic movements. Never before seen in Sri Lanka. Visitors will have the rare opportunity to witness paintings from the 15th to the 20th Century that have left an indelible mark upon the world of art. A chance to witness history on canvas! Exhibits include works by Da Vinci, Van Gogh, Botticelli, Munch, Monet, Matisse, Boucher, Degas, Cezanne, Gauguin, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Caravaggio, Goya, Delacroix, Renoir, Klimt, and Rousseau. They can immerse themselves up close in the beauty of their masterpieces that include, “Mona Lisa”, “The Scream”, “American Gothic”, “Sleeping Gypsy”, “The Great Wave off Kanagawa”, “The Card Players”, “The Tower of Babel”, “Starry Night”, and “The Kiss”. Some of the paintings on display span over 7 feet in width! But importantly, each artwork tells a unique story, to reflect the artist’s vision, cultural influences, and the historical context in which it was created.

Jomo Uduman, founder and visionary behind the FU Art Forum, expressed his passion for democratising access to art. “Art has the power to transcend borders, connecting people across continents and centuries. Our mission is to make the beauty of art accessible to everyone, to inspire, and to ignite a love for creativity and expression.” By fostering this deeper understanding of art, the Forum seeks to empower the everyday people of Sri Lanka to appreciate, critique, and contribute to the rich tapestry of global artistic expression.

Visitors must note that there is a stairway to climb up to the gallery. Contact: 0777329596.
