The tranquil ambiance of Siam Nivasa, located within the Thai Embassy premises in Colombo, was transformed into a sanctuary of colour and contemplation as the “Mandala by Ransirini” Art Exhibition was ceremoniously inaugurated on Friday, 18 July, at 11:11 a.m.

The event was graced by former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who attended as the Special Guest. His presence added immense prestige to the occasion, celebrating the healing and meditative power of mandala art.

The exhibition is the vision of Ransirini Gamage, a seasoned artist, educator, and entrepreneur with over two decades of experience. Her work in mandala art has inspired countless individuals to explore self-discovery and mindfulness through creative expression. The exhibition also features the work of her students: Raida Ziard, Madushi Laknima, Dr. Archana Sunderam and Lasanya Premarathne.

Wickremesinghe explored the exhibition and praised the artist’s dedication to promoting mental well-being through art, emphasising the importance of nurturing creative spaces in Sri Lanka.

A special highlight of the ceremony was the welcome speech delivered by twelve-year-old Raidaa Ziard, one of the youngest mandala artists from Wycherley International School. In her heartfelt address, Raidaa shared: “Mandala art helps heal stress and anxiety. Repeatedly drawing intricate, detailed designs brings us into a meditative state. It improves our focus and concentration, and fosters creativity by encouraging us to experiment with different patterns and colours. Since I began drawing mandalas, I’ve grown by leaps and bounds. Looking back at my journey fills me with joy.”

She also expressed deep appreciation for her mentor: “Art can only be truly taught by a profound teacher. It is said that who teaches is just as important as what is being taught. Ransirini has been an incredible mentor—she shared with me every technique and insight she had about mandala art. I am forever grateful for the knowledge and inspiration I’ve gained from her.”

Following the ceremonial lighting of the oil lamp, guests were invited to explore the exhibition, which will remain open to the public until 31 July, daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 43, Dr. C.W.W. Kannangara Mawatha, Colombo 7.
