The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jordan, in collaboration with the management of the Classis Apparel Industry Co. Ltd. in Jordan, presented a breath-taking Sri Lankan traditional dancing performance in the 39th Jerash Festival of Culture and Arts, held on 2 August at the Ancient City of Jerash, marking Sri Lanka’s participation for the first time in recent history.
Sri Lankan Ambassador to Jordan J.A.D.S. Priyangika Wijegunasekara, participated in the inauguration of the Jerash Festival on 23 July, which was officially opened by the Prime Minister of Jordan Dr. Jafar Hassan.
The festival is one of the most prominent cultural events in Jordan, held annually in the historic city of Jerash, Jordan. The 39th edition of the festival was held for ten days and attracted around a half million visitors. The festival featured more than 235 events, including concerts, dance performances, poetry readings, art exhibitions, and traditional folklore shows that highlighted the cultural heritage of Jordan and 37 other countries.
The Sri Lankan traditional dance performance left a significant impression on the massive crowd from various backgrounds that had gathered to celebrate cultural diversity through dance, music, and art. It added vibrant energy to the festival and showcased the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka.
