Last year’s defending champions D.S. Senanayake were disappointed to find themselves ending up 4th even though their Hamlet played a strong and dominating role. Ananda College’s contemporary version of ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ saw them coming in third but a strong portrayal of the character ‘Leonato’ saw them bag the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ award as well and Maris Stella’s traditional and slapstick version of ‘The Tempest’ came in second. But the highlight of the night was Royal College’s take on The Tempest which went on to bring back the cup to Reid Avenue as well as the ‘Best Actor’ award for the portrayal of ‘Prospero’. Based on a subway station the concept brought about the play through a train crash and the events that followed. The cast of 30 was led by Rashmin Tirimanne De Silva and directed by the renowned director Thushara Hettihamu while support from College was over looked by the teacher in charge C.L. Attygalle.
