Wimal’s wife Sashi arrested

United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) MP and former Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities, Wimal Weerawansa’s wife Shashi Weerawansa was taken into custody yesterday by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for allegedly possessing a fake diplomatic passport.

This arrest was made following the CID instructing Weerawansa’s wife to appear before the CID on 19 February which Shashi failed to do. MP Weerawansa later told the media that Shashi had been hospitalised due to an illness and therefore she was unable to follow the CID instructions. However, Police Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said that the CID apprehended Shashi Weerawansa at a private hospital in Malabe last evening. She was under investigation for allegedly submitting forged documents to get a diplomatic passport.
