Sampur not a bribe: Keheliya

Minister Keheliya Rambukwella yesterday dismissed speculation that the Government had signed the Sampur Power project agreement with India to coerce Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to attend the Commonwealth Summit in Colombo next month. “The Sampur project has been under discussion for years,” the Cabinet Spokesman said. Asked if India had confirmed its Premier’s attendance, the Minister said other than for Canada no other Commonwealth Member state had claimed they would not be attending CHOGM in Colombo next month.
