Various stakeholders have a unique opportunity to speak up before the Government finalises the 2014 Budget today thanks to a ground breaking joint initiative by the Daily FT and the Colombo University MBA Alumni Association. Today between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. a mobile booth with an audio recording device will be available at the World Trade Centre for those who want to be a direct stakeholder in the Budget formulation of the country for 2014. The public will be allowed to briefly record their proposal or wish for 2014 Budget, which will be presented by President and Finance Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa later this year. Hundreds of people in Nugegoda and Fort Railway Stations made use of this opportunity yesterday. For those who are less vocal, proposals or wishes could be written down on an innovative postage paid envelope available in an ad appearing on Page 19 of today’s FT. Proposals can also be emailed via [email protected], or faxed to 2447848. The closing date for submissions is 7 October. These initiatives, including creative platforms developed by Phoenix O&M, are a prelude to the third consecutive annual pre-Budget Forum between the private sector and Ministry of Finance officials scheduled for 8 October at Hilton Residencies. All submissions made via mobile recording booths and in written format using the envelope will be submitted to Treasury Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundera at the Forum on Tuesday. Several leaders from different economic sectors will also list the three most urgent recommendations for consideration in the 2014 Budget at the Forum, sponsored by the Standard Chartered Bank.
