Regulations on foreigners visiting North lifted

The regulations imposed by the Ministry of Defence (MOD) on foreign passport holders traveling to the North have been lifted. The Ministry of Defence said that the decision was taken at the first Security Council meeting of President Maithripala Sirisena. According to the Ministry of Defence it was felt that since there is a peaceful environment in Sri Lanka such regulations will not be required anymore. The National Security Council also decided to lift restrictions on items transported to the North and East, other than weapons, explosive substances, clothing similar to that worn by the security forces and telescopes.
