President invites private sector to invest in power and energy sector

President Maithripala Sirisena on Thursday invited the private sector investors join forces with the Government in its program to make the country self-sufficient in power, fulfilling the country’s need for the next 10 years in energy.

President Sirisena made this invitation to the private sector during a meeting held Thursday (23) at the President’s Office regarding new investment in the field of power and energy.

Instructing to continue the wind power generation project uninterrupted, the President highlighted the ability of the private sector to contribute to the project.

As Sri Lanka expects to sustainably generate solar power in the future, a great deal of attention was focused on the subject during the discussion.

A proposal to expand the power generation system of the Victoria Plant was brought to the President’s attention during the meeting and the President advised the officials to look into the future activities and submit a report.

Minister of Power and Sustainable Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Minister Malik Samarawickrama, Secretary to the Power and Sustainable Energy Ministry Suren Batagoda and officials of the Ceylon Electricity Board, Board of Investment (BOI) and Sustainable Energy Authority and private investors participated in the discussion.
