Opposition protests but Govt. to go ahead with impeachment debate

At the request of the joint Opposition, Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa yesterday summoned a party leaders’ meeting in Parliament at noon yesterday. Despite the Opposition raising objections once more regarding the Government’s decision to violate the Supreme Court order regarding the PSC and its findings, the Government refused to give in, insisting that the debate and vote would go ahead as scheduled.

Accordingly, Parliament will commence debating the resolution today and continue tomorrow. A vote on the impeachment will be taken at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow.
