No “maithri” for soft liquor

President Maithripala Sirisena has advised the Finance Ministry to increase the tax on imported beer with low alcohol percentage.

The tax had been reduced when the 2016 budget was presented to Parliament last week. Accordingly, the President directed the imposition of Rs. 190 per litre tax for low strength imported beer which was reduced to Rs. 160 via 2016 Budget presented on Friday.
